Something we have thought of doing on an individual house basis is measuring the heat loss using a thermal imaging camera.  Haringey Council have done something on a much larger scale by flying over their area with a thermal imaging camera and 'seeing' the energy losses as heat from buildings.  Watch this space for Go Zero to do something similar!
