Seasonal Produce

Our forefathers who lived off the land and by the moons and seasons eagerly awaited their favourite fruits, vegetables and nuts to come into season. They would then harvest and eat fresh then use many ways to preserve, dry and bottle to extend the eating period.

Fish and meat too had a “right time” to be caught or butchered with salting and smoking being the only means of long term storage. Nowadays we are more spoilt for choice because Supermarkets pride themselves on importing from around the world. But what is the result of such indulgence?

Buying food out of season encourages the demand and therefore the need to shop abroad. Keeping within the natural seasons for your choices supports the local growers and producers and you definitely CAN taste a difference. Talking to your supplier will encourage them to let you know what seasonal foods are on the horizon.
