Sue and Martin Weaver of Portbridge Farm, Chew Magna supply seasonal veg boxes and free range eggs direct to homes within the Chew Valley. Since the publication of the Go Zero Local Food Directory their customer numbers have increased so much that they have bought five more acres of land along the Winford Road.
The Weavers also have a following in Glastonbury and Wells where they regularly have a stall at the street market. Martin believes that the there is a trend towards people wanting more good food, locally grown as they prefer the taste of fresh vegetables. More and more chefs and food experts are supporting the use of local foods over organic produced that has traveled from abroad and Martin says that people like to see carrots and parsnips that are not uniformly shaped.
