Skill Swap

Picture of Skill Swap

At the last meeting a tentative list of objectives and rules was formulated to get us up and running. It was decided that it is impossible to put a value on a skill as comparisons get far too complex. An HOUR swapped for an HOUR would therefore be the best solution. Each skill will be offered to a central "bank" allowing indirect swaps.

The main object is for everyone to feel able to get involved. If someone would like to "buy" a skill, they have to offer a skill to the bank in return. Encouragement and guidance will be given to those who feel they don't have anything to offer, so the main object is for everyone to feel able to get involved. If someone would like to "buy" a skill, they have to offer a skill to the bank in return. Encouragement and guidance will be given to those who feel they don't have anything to offer. In some cases people are already doing a lot for the community or their close neighbours so the concept of community skills was added to our plans.

Some issues were resolved as being very important for everyone concerned. Each person must have Houshold Insurance. The receiver of the skill swap bears ALL cost of materials and consumables. The donor will have to agree with the receiver exactly what the task covers and whether the task will be more than a single hour ( Tidy my garden? Do my ironing? Cook me a meal?)

On Wednesday 14th June we will again be meeting in The Queens Arms at 8pm to play a game of hypotheticals. We will test drive our concept and see how far we get before we need to rethink. Things that we do need to resolve are:

How easy will it be to administer and who will do this? How will we publish the list of skills? Do we need people to join a Skill Swap Club?
